Robert Young Pelton is known for working in and surviving the world’s wars. Whether it is Libya, South Sudan or Afghanistan, his designs for DPx Gear are the direct result of his hard won experience. His love of knives and constant use, testing, upgrading and real world punishment of his designs has resulted in the third generation of the famous DPx Gear HEST/F (“Hostile Environment Survival Tool/Folding”) knife.
New features include a 440C stainless steel lockbar insert; a reversible pocket clip, similar to the design on the popular DPx HEST/F Urban models; and hollowed titanium scales to reduce weight. The DPx HEST/F 3.0 is now available in DPx Gear’s popular Milspec and Triple Black configurations as well as in two collectible, limited run “DECADE '' versions to commemorate the DPx HEST/F product’s tenth anniversary. Each of these special runs will include M390 blade steel, IKBS bearing pivot hardware, unique blade and handle finishes, removal of the RotoBlock and a limited quantity will be produced.
The 3.0’s DNA stems from Pelton’s first knife patent, the DPx HEST Original fixed blade. He saw the need for one that mirrored his design philosophy of tough, practical, multi use in a reliable tool. “We retained the time proven ergonomics and function of the DPx HEST/F and made it stronger,” says Pelton. “I also wanted the frame and blade over-engineered and over-built.” With each new version of the DPx HEST/F line and each new DPx Gear design, Pelton still constantly field tests and listens to loyal customers and upgrades to constantly deliver on the promise of a hard use blade. Two dozen patents are a testament to Pelton’s commitment to constant innovation.
In addition to the precision steel lock bar insert and reversible clip, the newest version of the DPx HEST/F 3.0 retains classic hard use features like the patented Rotoblock*, which allows the user to lock the blade open for hard or slippery use; a glass breaker screw with a tungsten carbide insert (a spare flat head screw is also included); a patented blade notch that can be used as a quick open feature, pot holder and cap lifter; heavy jimping that doubles as wire strippers for the three major gauges of household, detonation and automotive electrical wire; and a 1/4“ hex driver/lanyard hole at the butt of the knife. The DPx HEST/F 3.0 is the latest product to deliver the benefits of Pelton’s continuous drive for perfection to demanding customers.
*Please note that the RotoBlock has been deleted on recent runs of the 3.0 in Sleipner blade steel. Please refer to the specific product page for more info.
